PlusTV Plus TV Analog USB Stick TV tuner

Well it was free at fry’s essentially, 33$ plus tax with a 33$ rebate, so only the tax was really paid. I haven’t really tried this yet, but my buddy got his working on windows xp with no problems. Experiments with mythtv and linux will follow, will let you know if this is the cheap solution to a silent media pc (the old laptop vs. the old desktop)…could be! the prior two versions of the chip had full disclosure for linux as far as the drivers were concerned, we can only hope the same will be true for this model. More to come.

Mupen64_nogui mythdora

hrm been having problems getting this to work with the latest mythdora release…I can make it run in command line mode, but not as an icon on the desktop nor within the mythdora game settings..they changed it from the .19 release, running .20 now…anybody running mupen64 and having no problems? I still only get about 40% of my games to run in the windows emulator, but was hoping for better results in linux..also have been hearing about gamepad and joystick issues..does anybody who reads this try this sort of thing? lemme know, leave an email and help me out..

Vista..reactions and opinions

Well after many problems with vista and nero/pccillin i have removed them both..we shall see if performance increases reciprocally..

..yep! they were the problem…specifically pccillion 2007 was running a program which utilized more than half of my cpu power almost constantly…nero was also a culprit when opening folders which contained divx/mp4/quicktime movies, the auto “preview” function almost always crashed the window, requiring another click to access the files…unacceptably slow, both programs are now removed and relegated to my “bloatware/malware” category, neither will ever be installed on my machines again. I have converted to avgfree in the interim, although hopefully bluetack will have a more effective alternative soon enough..windows defender and firewall seem sufficient at the moment, we shall see…anyways I have seen about a %45 improvement in performance following these tips..let me know if you insist on running nero, there is a workaround for the mpeg4 viewing issue, although i think it still runs several monitoring programs in the background, and the dvd/vcd authoring programs just reek…cpu usage around 6% while i’m typing this article, streaming reggae off streamcast, 4 firefox windows open, utorrent gramming 31kdown and 34kup and one explorer window open..no widgets yet, although i am pretty sure they will minimally impact system performance at this junction….

The first in a series on my struggles and triumphs with MythTV: my first PVR

So lets begin with saying I *had* knoppmyth running for approximately 2 months (without PVR-150 remote support) when lightning struck and blew that box away. So lets begin anew:

How to short the EEPROM on a dell latitude d610

;This process allowed me to unlock the bios password which had been set on a dell latitude d610 which my friend had acquired. I needed to open the back of the machine and short pins 3 and 6 (from right to left, the pins are labeled 8642 on the bottom and 7531 on the top of my picture)..use a paperclip and short it for 5 seconds about 2 seconds after you press start, then hit fn+x..good luck, worked on the 3rd try for me
